FNB Wines2Whales: Behind the Scenes

FNB Wines2Whales: Behind the Scenes

Posted by Pj Robertson on

BACKGROUND

As some of you may already know, we are proud to be associated with FNB Wines2Whales as Official Apparel Sponsor. This year Wines2Whales is celebrating its eleventh year, and over the past decade (and a bit) this event has grown from strength to strength establishing itself as a truly world class multi-stage race, and becoming a must-do event on the mountain-biking calendar.

Our role in this event is a source of great pride, as CEO Andrew Gold states, "We are extremely proud to be the apparel partner to the FNB Wines 2 Whales. We view the association as the pinnacle of our calendar." To us the rider jerseys we create are more than just performance cycle wear. They are a badge of honour - something that lives on long after riders cross the finish line, irrefutable proof that you were there and a an integral part of something greater.
We wanted to pull out all the stops to create jerseys that would stand out, but also stay true to the spirit of Wines2Whales and so we settled on the idea of a design competition, where we would pit our designers against one another, and they could compete for the chance to have their design associated with this prestigious event.

THE COMPETITION

So we decided to give our designers free reign to create a jersey they felt captured not only the essence of the Wines2Whales brand, but also our pride in our involvement. As Karlien Spamer our Head of Design explains,"We gave our entire design team the opportunity to get involved and pitch a concept for this year's Rider Jersey. The team put in an enormous effort to make sure the riders get more than just a free cycling jersey"

We feel the results of this approach speak for themselves. Wines2Whales liked the options so much they ran a competition asking their social media fans to pick their favourite.

THE DESIGNS

AND THE WINNER IS...

Over 700 votes later, we have a winner the winning design from Tyran Tam.

BUT WAIT THERE'S MORE...

The riders are in for a double whammy this year, as Ciovita is also providing an off the bike insulated puffer jacket to each participant. "We loved our involvement so much last year, that we had to do better this year. The riders of this year's events are really in for a treat when they collect their race pack" says Freddie Enslin, the companies Chief Sales Executive.

Entries for 2019 are open and you can still be a part of this exciting event by visiting the Wines2Whales Website or clicking on one of the links below.
