Franko Van Zyl
The COVID-19 lockdown in 2020 shattered many people's dreams, including Franko's - or so he thought. Forced to hang up his rugby boots due to multiple knee injuries and operations, COVID was the last straw for Franko as rugby matches were cancelled. With the uncertainty of when normal will be normal again, he started cycling to keep his mind and body fit.
Weighting in at 98 kg, at the beginning of April 2020, he could see the kilograms begin to drop. Franko started to feel positive again about sports. At the end of October 2020 the cycling bug bit him, he wanted more.
Franko has only been cycling for 3 years and has realised many great achievements in this short span of time. He has excelled in the gravel, MTB and road scene. Franko has a tendency to be a perfectionist, always striving to do things to the best of his ability. Being a naturally competitive athlete, he doesn't handle losing well.
Outside of cycling, Franko enjoys spending time in the Karoo. He is especially passionate about farm life. On a Sunday morning, you can typically find Franko spending quality time with his family or seeking new coffee spots to enjoy.
