Kevin Benkenstein

Father and Husband
Ultra Endurance Gravel Racer

Kevin, affectionately known as Benky, grew up surrounded by a deep passion for sports. As a child, he dreamt of becoming a professional cricketer, inspired by his cousin Dale’s sporting career. And so Kevin always believed he would have a career in professional sports.

Kevin’s racing career is a testament to his determination and love for cycling. He started racing at age 14, focusing solely on road cycling; he wanted to become the next Lance Armstrong. However, he came to acknowledge at age 19 that his dreams of making it as a pro road cyclist in Europe may not come true. It wasn’t long until Kevin returned to his passion, at age 25, determined to pursue his cycling aspirations. In 2014 Kevin made a bold career decision when he bought a gravel bike, broadening his horizons to ultra-endurance style racing in which Kevin has excelled.

Off the bike, Kevin is a proud family man, a Husband, and a Father to two girls. He owns a bicycle business specialising in gravel and adventure bikes. Kevin’s passion for all things cycling-related is evident, and his goal is to get more people riding and loving cycling. He mentions that perhaps one day, he will “grow up”?

Kevin has many outstanding achievements to his name. One of his proudest achievements is truly loving riding - in all its forms and speeds. Kevin rides for many things. Mostly he is inspired by the ride and where it might take him. After all, as he says: Every ride is the first of its kind, a journey to enjoy and cherish, and you never know what it may give you.
